Falcons hold on to win

LAWTON, OKLA. DaJuan Jones scored a game-high 21 points to lead the UTPB men’s basketball team to a 69-65 victory against Cameron University on Saturday at Aggie Gymnasium.

Max Warren added 13 points, Jalen King 12 and Keyon Craddock 11 as the Falcons improved to 12-16 overall, 6-13 in Lone Star Conference play.

DeSean Munson scored 14 points and pulled down a game-high nine rebounds to lead Cameron (4-21, 2-17).

Caylen Goff-Brown chipped in 12 and Reggie Prudhomme had 11 in the loss.

Tough loss

LAWTON, OKLA. Kailyn Lay and Karley Miller each had 18 points to lead Cameron to a 70-61 victory against UTPB in Lone Star Conference women’s basketball play Saturday at Aggie Gymnasium.

Kiara Lovings added 13 points as Cameron improved to 12-13 overall, 9-10 in conference.

Holly Hemmeline scored a game-high 20 points to lead the Falcons (11-14, 8-11) and Avalon Munoz added 13 points, while Alexus Quaadman had 10 points and 11 rebounds for her 10th double-double of the season.

Dropping two

Lubbock Christian University swept UTPB in a Lone Star Conference baseball doubleheader Saturday at Roden Field.

The Chaparrals won the first game, 16-2, before earning a 9-1 victory in the second game.

Chris Shull and Carson Ogilvie each had three hits and four RBIs for Lubbock Christian (5-2 overall, 5-2 in Lone Star Conference) in the first game.

Andrew Duran earned the complete-game victory in the second game, allowing just two hits.

Nate Van Maanen drove in three runs, with Jacob Gutierrez going 4 for 4 with a home run and one RBI.

Leveling up

LUBBOCK The UTPB softball team took control in the fourth inning and held on to defeat Minot State (N.D.) on the second day of the Lubbock College Sports Invitational at Lubbock Christian University.

Aracely Araiza hit a grand slam and Melayna Lopez added a three-run homer to pace the Falcons (3-3).

Emily Andress, Julia Bumford and Aryell Aguiar all had two hits for UTPB.

Bats on fire

The Odessa College softball team earned a pair of run-rule victories at the Permian Basin Invitational on Saturday at Wrangler Field.

The Lady Wranglers defeated Barton Community College, 8-0, in the first game and then routed Otero College, 22-2, in the afternoon contest.

Morgan Dutton was 2 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs against Barton C.C., with Brooke Nauman also homering in the victory.

Presley Main was 1 for 3 with two RBIs.

The second game saw Odessa College jump out to an 8-0 lead after one inning and never look back.

Reagan Stange homered twice in the victory, going 3 for 3 with three runs scored and 5 RBIs.

Alana Duran added a three-run home run to the mix.
