WRANGLERS SET FOR NIRA RODEO

Odessa College’s College National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association rodeo will take place Thursday through Saturday at the Ector County Coliseum.

Performances will begin at 7 p.m. each night.

The Wranglers men’s team currently is 10th in the Southwest Region standings, with WJCAC rivals Western Texas College and Clarendon College sitting first and second after the fall rodeos.

Odessa College’s Riggin Lane Shippy is third in the bull riding, with Luis Alonso Mendiaz third in the heeler standings.

Both teams defeated rival Midland College on Monday.

The Lady Wranglers (14-8 overall, 7-4 WJCAC) are led by Nahawa Diarra Bertha (10.6 points per game) and Ivana Krajina (10.3 ppg).

The fourth-ranked Wranglers (25-2, 12-1), led by Kiree Huie, Anthony Marshall and Dontrell Hewlett have won four in a row.

LADY WRANGLERS GARNER WJCAC HONORS

Odessa College’s Clarisa Zapata and Emily Brouse were the Western Junior College Athletic Conference Softball Players of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday.

Zapata was the Position Player of the Week after going 12 for 19 with a double, triple, home run, eight RBIs, 11 runs scored and five stolen bases in six games.

Brouse was the Pitcher of the Week after picking up a pair of dominating victories, striking out 18 in 12 innings of work, while surrendering just three hits.
