COLLEGE GOLF: Record-breaking day leads Wranglers to WJCAC title

SWEETWATER The Odessa College men’s golf team had a record-breaking showing, carding rounds of 255-255—510 to claim a Western Junior College Athletic Conference title Monday at the Sweetwater Country Club.

The Wranglers finished 18 shots ahead of second-place Midland College (261-267—528) and 26 shots ahead of New Mexico Junior College (267-269—536).

Odessa College’s Sangha Park (63-60—123) finished first in the individual standings, with teammate Max Cooper (63-65—128) tying for second with Midland College’s Adam Coull.

Laurenz Kubin finished in fourth and Marcelo Garza tied for fifth, giving the Wranglers four golfers with top-five finishes in the tournament.

Park nearly carded a 59 in his second round, but a lip out on a 10-footer on hole 18 saw him narrowly miss the mark.

Odessa College broke every single-day school record at the conference tournament.

The Wranglers will now compete in the NJCAA Southwest Championship April 11-12 in Fort Worth.
