SILVER CITY, N.M. UTPB running back Jayvon Davis rushed for 121 yards and scored a key touchdown in the fourth quarter to help the Falcons to a 27-19 victory against Western New Mexico in Lone Star Conference play Saturday at Ben Altamirano Field.
The game was delayed 90 minutes because of weather.
The Falcons improved to 3-1 overall, 2-0 in conference and have won their last nine games against Division II opponents.
Davis scored on a 15-yard run around the right side with 6:14 remaining to play in the game to give UTPB a 12-point (24-12) lead.
Carson Roberts connected on his second field goal of the game with 3:42 remaining for the Falcons’ final points.
Quarterback Clayton Roberts finished 11-of-25 passing for 149 yards and one touchdown on a soggy night that made gripping the football difficult.
Wide receiver Kobe Robinson caught six passes for 114 yards.
Quarterback Devin Larsen led Western New Mexico (1-3, 0-2), completing 28 of 44 passes for 250 yards and one touchdown.
He was intercepted twice by UTPB defensive back Jaques Tyler, the second coming just after Davis’ touchdown run as the Mustangs were trying get back into the game.
