Falcons fall on the road
CANYON The West Texas A&M women’s basketball team raced out to a big lead after one quarter and made that stand up in a 72-65 victory against UTPB on Thursday in Canyon.
The Lady Buffs (17-6 overall, 10-5 Lone Star Conference) lead 21-7 after 10 minutes and the Falcons (10-12, 7-9) could never catch back up.
Alexus Quaadman had 13 points and 13 rebounds, her ninth double-double of the season, to lead UTPB.
Holly Hemmeline scored 15 points and Avalon Munoz added 10 points and five assists in the loss.
Lauren Tayler scored a game-hight 18 points to lead West Texas A&M, with Karley Motschenbacher finishing with 15 and Azia Himeur and Hollie Stalder both adding 10 points to the mix.
UTPB continues its road trip against Lubbock Christian University at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Rip Griffin Center.
Men as well
CANYON Larry Wise scored a game-high 23 points to lead West Texas A&M to a 70-66 victory against UTPB in Lone Star Conference play Thursday in Canyon.
Damion Thornton added 15 points and Addison Wallace finished with 14 for the Buffs (15-6 overall, 13-2 conference).
Jalen King scored 14 points and had 11 rebounds to lead UTPB (11-14, 5-11), with DaJuan Jones and Max Warren each finishing with 10 points in the loss.
UTPB is back in action, against Lubbock Christian University, at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Rip Griffin Center in Lubbock.
