Tough finish

SAN ANGELO UTPB’s women’s basketball team struggled in the second quarter and the proved to be too much to recover from in a 71-55 loss to Angelo State Thursday at the Junell Center.

The Falcons led after one quarter (14-12), but were outscored 17-6 in the second quarter and never recovered..

UTPB finished the regular season 13-15 overall, 10-12 in Lone Star Conference play.

That left the Falcons in a three-way tie for seventh place, with the top eight teams making the upcoming Lone Star Conference tournament.

The conference will use a tiebreaker to determine the final two spots.

Alexus Quaadman led UTPB with a game-high 19 points and 19 rebounds.

Holly Hemmeline finished with 15 points in the loss.

Madeline Stephens led the Rambelles (22-6, 17-5) with 18 points, while Tayjanna McGhee-Pleasant had 14 and Landry Morrow 11 in the victory.

SAN ANGELO The UTPB men’s basketball missed a tying field-goal attempt in the final moments of a 61-59 loss against Angelo State Thursday at the Junell Center.

The Falcons (13-18 overall, 7-15 Lone Star Conference) led by three (57-54) with 2:19 remaining to play, but were outscored 7-2 the rest of the way.

DaJuan Jones scored 14 points to lead UTPB, with Jalen King finishing with 13 and Rodney Carson Jr., 12.

D’Mari Wiltz grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds in the loss.

Kevon Godwin and Willie Guy each scored 13 points for the Rams (23-5, 19-3), with Devaughn Thomas adding 11 to the victory.
