COLLEGE BASEBALL: Johnston and Adams sign to play at UTPB

Dallas College Eastfield’s Jalen Johnston and Bryan Adams both signed with UTPB to play baseball.

A 6-foot-2, 175-pound sophomore right-handed pitcher from San Angelo who played at Central High School, Johnston is 2-1 with one save this season. He has a 4.56 earned run average and 30 strikeouts in 23.2 innings.

Johnston was named the Dallas Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week Feb. 13.

Ranked No. 3 in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III, Eastfield (39-11, 23-4 DAC) won the conference regular season title for the second straight year, and will host the South Central District Tournament next Wednesday-Saturday (May 10-13) in Mesquite, Texas.

Eastfield advanced to the NJCAA Division III national championship game last year, falling to Herkimer College.

Right-handed pitcher Adams, a 6-foot-5, 190-pound native of Andrews who played at Andrews High School, is 3-1 with one save this season. He has a 3.96 earned run average and 36 strikeouts in 25 innings pitched. Adams had a season-high eight strikeouts in five innings, and did not allow a run against Des Moines Area Community College Feb. 18.

Adams was named the Dallas Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week in back-to-back weeks Feb. 20 and Feb. 27.
