COLLEGE BASEBALL: Wranglers finish regular season with sweep of Western Texas College

The Odessa College baseball team completed a series sweep of Western Texas College with two wins Saturday in Western Junior College Athletic Conference play at Wrangler Field.

The Wranglers won Game 1 against the Westerners 11-4 and closed out Game 2 with a 21-3 victory.

Tyson Pointer was a driving force for Odessa College in the first contest, driving in three runners to lead the team while Austin Russell and Jake Gonce recorded two RBIs.

With the score tied 1-1, the Wranglers took over with seven runs scored in the bottom of the third and fourth innings.

They carried that momentum over into Game 2, jumping out to an 8-0 lead in the first inning.

The Wranglers added three runs each in the second and third before Western Texas got on the board in the top of the fourth.

A 7-run inning in the bottom of the fourth helped Odessa College put the game out of reach.

Dylan Heim led the Wranglers with four RBIs in the second game, while Reese Bassinger surrendered three hits and recorded two strikeouts.

Odessa College (36-19 overall, 22-10 conference) will compete in the NJCAA Region V Baseball Tournament May 13-17 at Christensen Stadium in Midland.
