NUGGETS: What seed are you?

By Jannie Linney

The parable of the sower, teaches us many things. It says, “And as he sowed, some seeds fell by the wayside and the fowls came and devoured them up. ‘[Matt.13:4] The explanation: “When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, then the wicked one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart.” [Matt 13:19] Those people are just not interested in the word of God. They may even go to church and hear the preacher, but by the time they get to the parking lot they can’t remember what the sermon was about.

“Some fell on stony places where they did not have much earth; and they immediately sprang up because they had no depth of earth” [v. 5]. New Life came. The explanation: “But he who received the seed on stony places, this is he who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy: yet he has no root in himself, but endures only for a while. For when tribulation or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he stumbles” [v.21].

Being a Christian is not always easy. What is easy, that is worth having? Yet mankind doesn’t throw other things away as easily as they do their relationship with Jesus, “And some fell among thorns, and the thorns sprang up and choked them” [v.7]. Look, it sprang up, new Life came. Think about it. “Now he who receives seed among the thorns is he who hears the word, and the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful”[v.22] The Bible says in John 15 Every branch in me that does not bear fruit He takes away they gather them and throw them in the fire. They had to be attached to the vine to bear fruit in the first place. Here it says they became unfruitful. They once bore fruit, so they were once attached to the vine. This could be people who once were excited about Jesus and the things of God, yet that joy decreased as their desire for other things increased such as making money and the entertainment of spending it. Then their children’s, school activities, popularity and what others expected, became more important than the things of God.

Seed four “But others fell on good ground and yielded a crop: some a hundred fold, some sixty, some thirty” [v8]. The explanation: “But he who receives seed on good ground is he who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and produces some a hundred fold, some sixty, some thirty”[v23].  The good seed will be known by their fruit. A seed produces of its own kind. A cotton seed produces more cotton seeds. A Christian produces more Christians. The fruit of a Christian is recognized by this;” The Spirit of the Lord is upon them, they are anointed to share the gospel, they have been sent to heal the broken hearted, to minister deliverance to the captive, and to the recovery of the sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed and to preach the acceptable year of the Lord” [Read Luke 4:18].

The Word says if we don’t understand this parable, we will not understand the concept of the whole word. The Robe we weave here on earth, is the Robe we will wear for all Eternity. The one we serve here on earth is the one we will serve for all eternity. There are only two forces on Earth; we all serve one or the other. The first three seeds bore no fruit. The fourth seed is the only one that bore fruit. “You will know them by their fruit” [Matt.7:16]. “What Seed Are You?”
