BRASWELL: Love month

By Dr. Jimmy Braswell

February is the month of love, a celebration of love.

How often do we question what is love? Sitting on the porch with my grandfather in summer, I took the opportunity to ask questions. I asked my grandfather how to know I was in love – he paused and shared his ancient wisdom “you’ll know.”

So many ask the same question, but how many really discover true love?

That genuine interest in all another person says and does, common tastes, ideals and standards, a greater happiness being with this person than any other with a real unhappiness when that person is absent, a great feeling of comradery, a willingness to give and take, and a pride in the other person’s achievements.

Tall order, huh? It’s no wonder that when a person has a true personal relationship with God, we discover that we love God because He is the essence of true love.

The Bible reminds us of it, “God is love.” We can experience it again through the Bride of Christ, the church. The church is made up of people who love God and when you fellowship with them – really get to know them – you also get a reflection of God and His great love of you.

If you are looking for love – look up – vertically searching and God will find you. You will experience true love – eternal love – and then find it again in a fellowship (church) of God’s people. In the love month search for it with all your heart.

Good journey!
