NUGGETS: Palm Sunday was for us

By Jannie Linney

The children of Israel had been praying and God was making a way for them to escape from the 400 year slavery in Egypt. God spoke to all the congregation of Israel, He told them, each house to take a lamb. (I’m giving a very condensed version that you can read in Exodus 12.)

He said for the whole assembly to kill it in the evening. “And they shall take of the blood, and strike it on the two side posts and on the upper door post of the houses, wherein they would eat” [V. 7-8]. “They would eat it, dresses and shoes on their feet and their staff in their hand; and ye shall eat it in haste: it is the Lords Passover. For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the first born in the land of Egypt, both man and beast, and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgement: I am the Lord.” [V. 11-12].

For us today we are to be under the Blood of Jesus Christ. “And the Blood shall be to you for a token upon the house where you are: and when I see the Blood, I will pass over you and the plague [virus] shall not be upon you to destroy you when I smite the land of Egypt” V. 13]. The Blood is a token of protection over the People that are in good standing with God! Jesus is our help in times of trouble.

This is a time for us to remember our Precious Lord and Savior Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Palm Sunday is a commemoration of the entrance of Jesus into the city of Jerusalem riding on a donkey. He was to do the last Passover meal with His disciples until He could be with them after His death. He chose to give His fleshly house into the torture, the cross, His death, burial and resurrection, that the door post of our earthly house, our body, could be marked with His precious blood. Yes this fleshly body will die, but His precious blood stain will be with us for all eternity. Yes, forever, just as the scars from where the blood came, will be with Him.

As He rode into the city on the donkey, they spread palm leaves and their clothing on the path where the donkey was to walk. They were honoring a person they thought was to take over and be king of the earthly territory. Yet He was really buying a place for you and I in His eternal Kingdom, making us Kings and Priest. The palm is a type of righteous prosperity. Palm branches are a symbol of victory [Rev. 7:9].

He paid a terrible price that we might have the privilege and honor to participate in His plan for us. “He that dwells in the secret place of the most high shall abide under the shadow of the almighty. Surly He shall deliver you from the snare of the fouler and from the noisy pestilence.”

He paid the price for everything we will ever need. The key for us to receive all those blessings, by faith, freely choose to accept what He did. Believing that He is God, and He took on a fleshly body by way of a virgin, he suffered, died on the cross, was buried and rose again. He is now alive and seated at the right hand of God. He did all this so we could be forgiven of our sins and live a victorious life, even in times of trouble. Ask Him to forgive you, come into your heart and live His life through you. The wages of sin is death. Give up that death and choose Life in Jesus Christ. This will be the best “Palm Sunday” you have ever had! “Palm Sunday Was For Us.”
