NUGGETS: Lukewarm

By Jannie Linney

In the letters to the church of Laodiceans in the book of Revelation, the Lord spoke, “I know your works, that you are neither cold or hot. So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold or hot, I will spew you out of My mouth” [Rev. 3:14-15]. Sounds like, a person that is spiritually lukewarm would make God so sick at His stomach and He would puke. Some Bible teachers, think we are that Generation.

Now there is two ways to be lukewarm. Heat up to a point of lukewarm and refuse to go any further or get really hot and move away from the fire of God and cool down. Spiritually, the first would be like getting born again and began to grow in the things of God and when things really began to heat up spiritually; they would decide they didn’t want to go any further. People might think they were going off the deep end or getting too exuberant in their walk with the Lord. So they would say, “No More, I’m not going to pray out loud, lay hands on the sick, receive Matthew 3:11, or Acts 2:1-4. Just being content to go to church, tithe and try be good. Some people are, just too lazy to put out the effort to continue on in the deeper things of God. The “Luke Warm” Christians are likely angry right now,

Taking this in the second spiritual condition, is growing in the Lord, wanting all God has, consuming the Bible believing everything it says and trying to do all it says. Not giving a rip what anyone might think, because of the fire of the Holy Ghost that flows through every move and every thought. Then gradually lighten up on Bible study, prayer time, then quit going to church on Sunday nights, later quit Wednesday nights, skipping once-in-a- while on Sunday mornings. Backing away from the fire of the Holy Spirit caused a condition of being lukewarm. The Lord said something about this, “Because you say ‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’ – and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked—” [V.17]. There were millions of Christians that didn’t even bother to vote in the last election.

I am concerned that much of the Body of Christ is in that condition at this time. Even the poor people in these United States are rich up beside the Third World countries. This is a spoiled nation, depending on the government instead of depending on God. The Church has sat back and let God be removed from almost everything. There are more people in this nation who believe in God than those who don’t. Yet this nation has become a lukewarm nation and let the few take over and run the nation. The nation is always a reflection of the people of God. When Israel refused to be obedient to the will of God, they were enslaved for 400 years. When Russia turned their back on God, they were imprisoned by their government behind an iron curtain.

As long as America has been a Christian nation, it has been blessed by God. It has been the peace maker and protector of the world. We have been the strongest and richest nation in every way. Sent more evangelists into the whole world and stood with Israel as the People of God. Because of this, we have had the favor of God. We could be under judgement now.

I am making a plea to those Christians of this nation to come out of that lukewarm place, move out and make a difference, It is written by the Holy Spirit, “Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ” [2 Cor. 2:14 a]. In Christ, we do not have to be lukewarm.
