NUGGETS: Jesus paid our debt

By Jannie Linney

We would have to copy the whole Bible cover to cover to see all Jesus did, however there is one passage that covers much of what He did for us. It covers enough for us to be eternally grateful. He is a wonderful Savior!

The Word was talking about Jesus growing up as a tender plant. That was referring to His childhood. It was written, “as a root out of dry ground,” reminding us He was from the root of Jessie. Describing him, “having no form nor comeliness; and when they see Him there is no beauty that we should desire Him.”

There was nothing about Him that would be a drawing cord to Him, and that He was even despised and rejected having been brought to much sorrow and grief [Is. 53:1-3]. We will look at part of what He paid for. You have heard the song, “We owed a debt we could not pay, He paid a debt He did not owe.” He loves us so much!!!

“Surely He has born our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem Him smitten of God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisements of our peace was upon Him; and with His stripes we are healed” [Is. 53:4-5]. Jesus suffered and gave His life for our salvation, yes, but not just from hell to heaven. He paid the price for everything we would ever need. Let’s look at what He bought.

Griefs: The suffering of the mind as a result of mishaps, trouble, disaster or failure. [Webster’s Dictionary]

Sorrows: Pain of mind caused by loss, unhappiness; sadness. A cause of grief. [Web. Dic].

Transgressions: To go beyond the limits set against; To sin against; As one who steals, transgresses the 8thcommandment. Goes beyond what is right. [Web. Dic.]

Iniquities: A great injustice; wickedness, also sin.

Peace: An agreement to end a war. A state of quite; calm; Harmony between persons; mutual concord. [Web. Dic]. Peace in biblical terms is “Shalom” Nothing missing, nothing broken. This includes our soul which is our [mind, will, and emotions] our body and spirit.

Healed: To cure or be cured. A state of being in good physical condition; well-being. [Wed. Dic]. He paid for healing for our body, soul, and spirit but you and I have to appropriate it with faith just as we do with our salvation. We are saved by Grace through faith. That is the difference between Christians and non-Christians. Christians are not perfect but are in the process of being cleansed, set free, if not, they are not saved. Change comes to everything He touches!

Jesus shed Blood in five places to pay the price for our “Shalom” the peace of nothing missing, nothing broken.

1. When they shoved that crown of thorns down on His head, blood came forth for our griefs and sorrows, our mental healing.

2. His hands were pierced, and blood came forth for our service in the Kingdom.

3. When the nails were driven into His feet, he shed blood for our walk with Him.

4. As they beat His back that thirty nine times with the cat-of-nine tails, by His stripes we were healed. [Is. 53:3-4], Pointing forward to the cross. “By His stripes ye were healed” [1Peter 2:24] pointing back to the cross, for all mankind ever born.

5. The sword was driven into His side that we might walk side by side with Him in the peace of His security. No better welfare than this !!! Yes! “He Paid Our Debt.”
