An Odessa kidney specialist who treats patients across West Texas was recently awarded a top award during the DaVita Physician Leadership conference in Washington, D.C.

The award, called the Service Excellence award for Core Value and Service, was awarded to Dr. Anand C. Reddy.

DaVita Kidney Care held their annual physician leadership meeting in Washington D.C., where more than 700 physicians attended from across the country and nine other nations. During the conference, outstanding achievements are awarded based on DaVita’s seven core values.

Reddy, in an email, said he was proud to be selected as the recipient of the “Service Excellence Award” for outstanding patient care in the large area of West Texas.

“The zeal to work for the people and help them to the best of my abilities to achieve good health has led me all over the globe,” Reddy said. “I learned from great physicians in the United States, India and United Kingdom. The hard-training I received in the U.S., UK and India has chiseled me into an efficient doctor.”

Reddy was born in India and attended medical school at Bangalore Medical College. “I furthered my career in medicine in the United Kingdom and I successfully did my MRCP (Member of the Royal College of Physicians).”

He then came to the U.S. to do his internal medicine residency at Case Western University in Cleveland and then did a nephrology fellowship (Kidney specialization) at Mount Sinai in New York.

Reddy moved to West Texas seven years ago as a nephrologist and said there were needs in the area for his specialty.

“I am blessed to take care of patients in this area,” he said.

His practice is spread over a 200 mile radius and has grown to include associate Dr. Asif Ansari, also a nephrologist. Both practice in Midland and Odessa, and have patients in Fort Stockton as well.

Reddy and Ansari have office locations in Odessa and Midland and also have inpatient hospital privileges and provide services in MCH, ORMC and MMH hospitals. “We see dialysis patients at DaVita dialysis centers in Midland and Odessa,” Reddy said.

Reddy also likes teaching and was awarded the “Best Teaching House Staff” during his internal medicine residency in Cleveland. “To continue my love for teaching, I am currently the associate professor of Internal Medicine in TTHUSC and enjoy teaching the young residents and medicine students. I am very passionate about medicine and Research. I have published many research papers and am always in pursuit of improved medicine practices.”

Reddy is also chief of staff at ORMC hospital.

He is married to Pushpa Reddy and has two children, 8-year-old twins, who attend St. John’s Episcopal School in Odessa.

He said they enjoy West Texas and traveling. “We enjoy traveling as family and explore different cultures. The first trip from Odessa we remember is to the city of Alpine and Marfa. It was just so beautiful and amazing … memorable West Texas!”

He is a sports fan with a love for the NBA and likes to play golf and considers swimming the best exercise.
