Odessa Fire Rescue is accepting applications for the 2018 Citizens Fire Academy. The 10 week program begins Tuesday, and will be held from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday nights, through May 1.
The program is a hands-on opportunity for citizens to become familiar with firefighting apparatus, learn about emergency medical services, vehicle extrication, fire prevention, hazardous materials, technical rescue, fire investigations, as well as receive fire extinguisher and CPR training.

Sul Ross State University, 400 N. Harrison St., Alpine, has scheduled a presentation by David Valdez, former Presidential photographer, at 6 p.m. March 21 in the Briscoe Administration Building, Room 304.
Valdez, the fifth Presidential photographer of only 10 in history, became the personal photographer of then-Vice President George H.W. Bush in 1983. He published “George Herbert Walker Bush: A Photographic Profile” in 1997.

The Nature Conservancy in Texas has scheduled Open Preserve Weekend from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 16-18 at Davis Mountains Preserve in Fort Davis.
The preserve will be open to the public for hiking, camping, biking and other outdoor activities.
Camping is only allowed in designated areas, and only on open weekends.
Guests will be required to sign in and out at the McIvor Conservation Center.
