Alzheimer’s Association West Texas chapter to host community forum

MIDLAND Alzheimer’s is not a part of normal aging. Midland residents are invited to take part in an Alzheimer’s Association Community Forum on the impact of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. Join us at the Village at Manor Park, Clubhouse – Ortloff Room, 5212 Sinclair Ave., Midland, on Thursday, March 28, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. to learn more about Alzheimer’s, dementia and memory loss.

The forum provides an opportunity for residents of all ages to come together to ask questions about the disease, share their personal experiences, learn about available resources and discover volunteer opportunities to support families affected by the disease. Bring a friend or family member, and share your thoughts about how the Alzheimer’s Association can help more people in our community, a news release said.

Recently released county-level prevalence data reports that Midland County has a 12.4%% prevalence of Alzheimer’s in individuals 65 and older. This is somewhat higher than the state average of 11.9%, emphasizing the importance of education programs on Alzheimer’s and dementia to Midland County residents.

“Alzheimer’s disease is a growing concern in our community,” Maria Llamas, Program Director with the Alzheimer’s Association, West Texas chapter, said in the release. “We invite families to join us so we can better understand your needs and address support for the Midland area community.”

This is a free event and is open to all. Lunch will be provided. Please RSVP before March 26 by emailing or texting Maria Llamas, Director of Programs & Services, at [email protected] or (915)257-0246.
