Buckingham announces dedication ceremony for 4 new war monuments

AUSTIN Texas Land Commissioner and Veterans Land Board Chairwoman Dr. Dawn Buckingham announced Monday that the VLB’s War Monument Dedication Ceremony at the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery (TSVC), 9974 IH 37 Access Road, in Corpus Christi is scheduled at 11 a.m. May 3. This ceremony will dedicate four new war monuments honoring all who served in WWII, Korea, Vietnam, and the Persian Gulf.

“As VLB Chairwoman, honoring and remembering the legacies of our nation’s heroes is a responsibility I cherish and take very seriously,” Buckingham said in a news release. “These war monuments are not only awe-inspiring additions to VLB’s Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery, but they are undeniable reminders of the selflessness and bravery of the men and women of our Armed Forces. I encourage all Texans to come and pay their respects to the Veterans who are participating in the dedication ceremony and take a moment to reflect upon the sacrifices of the service members who have fought in these wars.”

The ceremony will include a Veteran from each war period, including World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and the Persian Gulf War. Each Veteran will speak at their respective monuments.

Dr. John Kelley, director of Texas State Veterans Cemeteries, will provide a keynote address for the ceremony.
