LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Ruiz-Crutcher is a good candidate

When Lori Ruiz-Crutcher asked me to serve as her campaign treasurer associated with her candidacy for Judge, 244th District Court. I did not take it lightly. There is the fiduciary responsibility; and, there is the question of the candidate’s views, philosophy, and integrity.

So, I first asked Lori how she viewed the responsibilities and work of a district judge. She said that a judge should follow the law, not legislate from the bench, and work diligently to avoid/minimize a backlog of cases.

I asked her if she had ever had any complaints lodged against her as a practicing attorney. She said she has had none.

I had known Lori for some time being very close friends with her in-laws, Pam and Drew. But, I had never worked with her on anything. I told her that as long as she handled her campaign responsibilities by always trying to do the right thing I would gladly serve.

Well, she has proven to be very diligent in her efforts to manage the campaign “the right way” including the financial part. I have found her to be trustworthy while paying attention to the details. These traits should be great assets when it comes to serving as a district judge.

I also know that she has worked hard. Not only has she spent a lot of time campaigning, which when done “the right way” is very hard work. But, she has also maintained her full time work as a practicing attorney.

Work ethic is an important trait that I have always focused on. She provided me with her work history: While in high school-work in the adult probation department, then legal assistant for a criminal defense attorney. While in college and law school-worked at the YMCA in its after-school children’s program and worked as a teaching fellow for several professors. After graduating law school she worked at the attorney general’s office in child support. Finally, she has been a well-respected practicing attorney with a local law firm for some time. This work history should remind many of you of your time working your way through school. It is admirable.

I’m asking your consideration in voting for Lori this week or on election day in the Republican Primary because she has the common sense, legal expertise, integrity, and work ethic to serve our community well as the 244th District Judge.
