LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Chavez is the only choice for JP

My name is James (Jim) W. Dodson and I am a retired police commander/deputy chief with the Odessa Police Department, having served twenty-seven honorable years. I have known Carlos Chavez for 35 years, personally working with him for over 11 years, maintaining an ongoing professional friendship with him to this day.

As an employee, I always found Carlos to be of high integrity and of good moral character, very ethical and professional. Regardless of where he served in the OPD, he maintained a strong commitment to excellence and possessed a great set of skills.

Sgt. Chavez was a first line supervisor for 24 years serving in patrol, detectives, community relations, K-9 unit and firearms training range. He was a swat team member for 22 years and has been a certified police instructor for 29 years. During his tenure at OPD, he had a very solid and proven track record of leadership as a supervisor, while overseeing one of the highest liability areas within the Odessa Police Department.

On June 10, 2023, Sgt. Chavez retired from the OPD after 35 years of honorable service to the citizens of Odessa.

The Ector County Commissioner Court must have recognized these same outstanding leadership qualities when they appointed him as Justice of the Peace and felt very confident that he would serve the citizens of precinct 1 in a fair, impartial and efficient manner.

Judge Chavez has also received the endorsement of former Judge Terry Lange who honorably served Precinct 1 for 24 years.

Judge Carlos Chavez possesses the highest level of INTEGRITY and has the actual criminal justice experience and skill set to continue to be an effective Justice of the Peace.

Just as he did as a law enforcement officer for 35 years, he will continue to do the right, the noble and the constitutional thing when performing the duties of his judgeship.

When you go to the voting booth please consider voting for the most qualified and experienced candidate, Judge Carlos Chavez for Justice of the Peace of Precinct 1.

Respectfully yours,

James (Jim) W. Dodson

Commander/Deputy Chief (retired)

Odessa Police Department
