A week ago, Iran’s audacious assault on Israel marked a perilous escalation in an already volatile region. Yet, thanks to Israel’s swift response bolstered by its allies, the majority of the over 300 drones and missiles launched by Iran were intercepted, averting a potentially catastrophic outcome. This successful defense not only saved Israeli lives but also demonstrated the effectiveness of Israel’s advanced anti-missile defense system, a testament to the enduring bond between Israel and the United States.
Such brazen aggression underscores the importance of our nation’s support for Israel. Now more than ever, our solidarity with Israel is crucial as it confronts existential threats posed by hostile regimes like Iran and Hamas.
In my capacity as a state representative, I have consistently championed unwavering support for Israel. At every juncture, I have backed resolutions and legislation reaffirming our state’s commitment to Israel’s security and prosperity. Today, I reassert this commitment, not only as a public servant but as a proponent of justice, freedom, and democracy.
Israel stands as a beacon of democracy in a region plagued by turmoil and instability. Amidst widespread suppression of basic freedoms, Israel continues upholding the pillars of liberty, equality, and the rule of law. And as the sole true democracy in the Middle East, Israel is not just an ally but a strategic partner whose values resonate deeply with our own.
From a spiritual perspective, the importance of supporting Israel is deeply ingrained in our Judeo-Christian heritage. In Genesis 12:3, God promises to bless those who bless Israel and curse those who curse Israel. Similarly, Numbers 24:9 reaffirms this principle by emphasizing the divine protection afforded to those who stand with Israel. As a God-fearing man myself, I pray the United States continues to honor and uphold this sacred obligation and continues to be blessed accordingly.
Moreover, from a political and strategic standpoint, supporting Israel is not just a matter of moral obligation but one of national interest. Israel serves as a bulwark against extremism and terrorism in the Middle East, protecting not only its own citizens but also contributing to regional stability. Our alliance with Israel ultimately enhances our own national security and strengthens our position on the world stage.
The Biden Administration simply cannot afford to falter in its support for Israel. The consequences of neglecting this alliance are too grave to ignore. And supporting Israel is not just the right decision; it is the only decision that aligns with our values, interests, and obligations as Americans.
Let us not forget the pivotal role the United States played in the establishment of the State of Israel in 1949, declaring our support for the creation of a Jewish state with the right to exist and thrive as a sovereign nation. We must honor that commitment by standing shoulder to shoulder with Israel in its ongoing quest for peace and security. Likewise, I will stand against anyone who uses this catastrophe as a platform to attack Jews or people of the Jewish faith who live outside the borders of Israel.
As I continue to pray for peace in the Middle East, my heart aches for the countless lives marred by the ravages of war, particularly the women and children caught in the crossfire. It is my earnest hope that leaders from all sides will transcend differences and grievances in pursuit of peace for their people. I stand in solidarity with Israel and remain hopeful for a future where the blessings of peace and prosperity abound for all.
