About 700 minor migrants are being held in the Midland area to relieve overcrowding at border stations following a recent surge.

City of Midland Public Information Officer Erin Bailey said a unified command team meeting was going to be held Monday, but it was not open to the press.

A news conference was scheduled for later on Monday.

Meanwhile, U.S. Rep. August Pfluger, R-Texas, is heading to El Paso for a tour with many of his GOP colleagues.

Pfluger issued a news release demanding answers from the U.S.Department of Health and Human Services on its decision to house the migrants at an Emergency Intake Site.

“The Biden administration’s lack of communication, coordination and notification of their plans to place unaccompanied migrant children in Midland without consent of state and local government officials is completely unacceptable, and I am demanding immediate answers from both HHS and the Biden administration.

“Our border is in crisis. President Biden’s rhetoric and policies are undeniably incentivizing illegal mass immigration. His refusal to acknowledge and properly respond to the crisis is overwhelming border states like Texas and putting the interior of the U.S. at even more risk of human trafficking as well as drug cartel and gang- related crimes,” Pfluger said.
