AUSTIN Ahead of the 89th Legislative Session in January 2025, Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick has announced his appointments to the Sunset Advisory Commission. Sunset establishes a date in which a state agency will be dissolved unless by an act of the legislature. The Commission exists to ensure that state agencies are effective while eliminating waste and maximizing efficiency.
Senator Kevin Sparks said, “I am honored to be one of those chosen and to have the opportunity to represent my district and our great state.” Senator Sparks continued, “Issues on which I campaigned on were state agency transparency and improvement. I look forward to making good on those promises and being able to review them firsthand.”
The State agencies that will be reviewed are:
The Texas Ethics Commission
The Texas Lottery Commission
Texas Real Estate Commission
Department of Information Resources
Texas Department of Criminal
Correctional Managed Health Care Committee
Board of Pardons and Paroles
Texas Department of Criminal Justice Windham School District
The Angelina and Neches River Authority
Lower Neches Valley Authority
Sabine River Authority of Texas
Trinity River Authority of Texas
The commission will meet for the first time on July 9th.
These state agencies are set to be dissolved under the Texas Sunset Act unless the legislature decides to extend them. The commissioners will submit reports to the legislature with recommendations on whether each agency should be retained and, if so, suggestions for their improvement.
