Woman identified in hit and run

An 87-year-old Hobbs, N.M., woman has been identified as the victim in last week’s fatal hit-and-run wreck outside Andrews.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, a truck-tractor with a trailer was traveling east on State Highway 176 when the driver changed lanes when it was unsafe to do so and veered into a Ford Expedition 16 miles east of Andrews.

The driver of the Ford lost control, went into a side skid and began to roll. The driver of the truck-tractor continued eastbound carrying four to five joints of large pipe.

Soledad Rodriguez Gonzalez, who was riding in the Ford’s backseat without a seat belt, was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene, according to DPS. The driver of the Ford, a 52-year-old woman from Hobbs and an 18-year-old man from Hobbs, who were both wearing seat belts, were uninjured.

Anyone with information concerning this crash is urged to call Texas DPS at 432-498-2131 or the Andrews Sheriff’s Office at 432-523-5545.
