Unique meal plan proposed at OC

At next Tuesday’s Odessa College Board of Trustees meeting, a program offering full-time students a unique meal program will be proposed.

Vice President for Student Services Kim McKay said the program, called Odessa College Wrangler Bucks Campus Dining Dollars, would start next fall with board approval.

During a board workshop Tuesday, she said they anticipate requesting $400,000 to serve 4,000 students across the entire school year.

The idea is to give students $100 per semester for two meals a week because students typically go to school two days a week, McKay said. The program would be open to online students and those on extension campuses to encourage them to come to the Odessa campus.

McKay said she would also bring some information from their food service provider about discounted rates so students can stretch their dollars further.

The program would use a declining balance on their digital student ID card, McKay said.

“There is no cash value, so there is no cash back and in December and May, the balances will be rolled back to the institution and then reinvested,” she added.

Students would be able to choose dining options from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

There are also arrangements in the works for student athletes.

Vice President for Administrative Services Ken Zartner discussed a project for landscape and signage at the corner of University Boulevard and Golder Avenue.

The recommendation would be to go with Mid-Tex of Midland, which bid $498,000. Estimated completion time would be 100 days.

Onyx bid $639,488 with an estimated 120-day completion, according to information from the meeting.

Trustees also discussed a tax abatement for Matheson Tri-Gas’ proposed air separation unit.
