Undercover sting leads to solicitation arrest

A 33-year-old man was arrested Wednesday after DPS special agents said he made a date to have sex with someone he thought was a 15-year-old girl, but was actually a law enforcement officer.

According to Texas Department of Public Safety report, Joel Garcia Elizondo Jr. of Kingsville responded to an advertisement on a popular dating app. He and the “girl” he met on the app then began texting each other.

During their conversations, the “girl” told Elizondo she was 15 and he responded by asking for her picture, the report stated. He then asked her when they could meet for her to perform oral sex on him and they arranged a meeting time and place.

Elizondo was arrested at the predetermined location and after being read his rights, he confessed he’d gone to that location to have sex with a 15-year-old girl.

Elizondo was arrested on suspicion of online solicitation of a minor, a second-degree felony punishable by two to 20 years in prison.

He remained in the Ector County jail Thursday on a $25,000 surety bond and U.S. Marshal’s hold.
