TTUHSC mourns passing of former regional dean

The Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center family is deeply saddened to announce Tuesday the death of former Permian Basin School of Medicine Regional Dean Dr. Gary Ventolini, a statement said.

Ventolini’s long and distinguished career modeled the pursuit of TTUHSC’s mission of patient care, education and research. He became the TTUHSC Permian Basin regional dean in 2012. During his tenure as regional dean, the School of Medicine at the Permian Basin experienced significant growth with the addition and expansion of residency programs, increasing clinical patient care, as well as tremendous growth in research and scholarships.

Ventolini began his medical career in 1977 after training and education in Colombia and Italy. During his years of practice and clinical teaching in Colombia, Ventolini worked also as an investigator with the World Health Organization. Subsequently he came to the U.S. completing residency in family medicine and later in obstetrics and gynecology. He maintained this double board status during his 10 years as a leading professor, program director and chair at the Boonshoft School of Medicine at Wright State University in Ohio.

The TTUHSC family will miss his presence in the workplace and extends our thoughts and condolences to his friends and family, the statement said.
