Trustees to discuss stadium bids

Bids for James Segrest Stadium are among the items the Odessa College Board of Trustees will consider at their meeting set for 6 p.m. Thursday in the Saulsbury Room of the Electronics Technology Building on campus.

Trustees discussed modifications to the project at a Nov. 17 workshop.

At the workshop, trustees discussed value engineering measures such as delaying installation of lights, reducing some of the turf and reducing the number of shade structures from 13 to five.

They can add shade structures as more funds become available, according to the workshop.

Some of the turf that was going to be put in will be concrete.

They won’t be waterproofing the brick around the buildings. They already have water-resistant technology.

Plans are to put in a digital scoreboard.

There is still fundraising to be done, but the project is expected to be complete in fall 2023.

Board Chair Gary Johnson said at the workshop that once the stadium is being used by the community, that could entice people to contribute to it.

Also on the agenda is an education report on the Commission on Community College Finance which will make changes to how community colleges are funding if the legislature passes the recommendations.

Additionally, an institutional effectiveness report and Vision 2030+ update will be presented.

OC President Gregory Williams will give his report that will include the United Way campaign; OC Honors 2022; Veterans Day concert; Odessa College Turkey Trot; President’s Reception; Invasion; National Night Out; 30 for 30 finale; “Noche De Arte” Odessa College Latinx Art Show; Nadia Rivas nominated for the Don Quixote Outstanding Hispanic Educator Award; and Pervis Evans Named Impact Academy Fellow.
