Texas House Committee set to meet Wednesday in Odessa

Preparing for the 88th Legislature that will convene Jan. 10 in Austin, the Texas House Environmental Regulation Committee will meet at 9 a.m. Wednesday in the Ector Theater at Fifth Street and Texas Avenue downtown.

Chaired by Rep. Brooks Landgraf, R-Odessa, the morning-long hearing will be open to the public, but only those whose testimony has been invited will speak. Others may submit written comments.

A spokesman for Landgraf said the purpose is to hear testimony regarding interim charges issued to the committee by House Speaker Dade Phelan of Beaumont.

“Interim charges are like homework for committees, an important part of the legislative process where legislators research important issues facing the state and vet policy proposals prior to the start of each legislative session,” the spokesman said.

Other committee members are Republicans Jay Dean of Longview, John Kuempel of Seguin, Kyle Kacal of Bryan and Geanie Morrison of Victoria and Democrats Alex Dominguez of Brownsville, the vice chairman, Vikki Goodwin of Austin and Penny Morales Shaw and Ron Reynolds, both of Houston.
