Odessa College announced the second annual Ford ASSET Signing Day at the Sewell Auto Tech facility, 2425 E. Eighth St., Aug. 28. Nearly 20 students will celebrate investments toward their educations provided by several Ford dealers across the region.
A student and family facility tour will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the ASSET Signing Ceremony from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
The Ford Automotive Student Service Educational Training (ASSET) program at Odessa College offers an innovative and unique learning model. Students will rotate between classroom studies and hands-on experience at Ford or Lincoln Dealerships over two years. Graduating with an associate degree and valuable dealer expertise, they will earn full certification with Ford, including BEV certifications.
Spanning six decades, Odessa College and the Sewell Family of Companies have maintained a longstanding alliance leading to the formation of the ASSET program, a news release said. Sewell donated the inaugural driver’s education vehicle to Odessa College in 1960 — the same year OC introduced the Automotive Technology Program. In 2009, the collaboration between Team Sewell and OC birthed Drive to Success, an incentive initiative now replicated nationwide. In 2013, the Sewell Family donated its original Ford dealership to fuel the program’s expansion. In 2019, Sewell Auto Tech became a reality, with plans to enrich our community for many more decades. Since then, Texas Ford dealers have come together amidst the competition for one common goal: fostering future leaders.
