SBA announces 2023 Small Business Week Award Winners

LUBBOCK Calvin Davis, District Director of the U.S. Small Business Administration’s West Texas district office announced the names of the 2023 Small Business Week Award Winners from the seventy-one counties in the West Texas district. “We are especially proud of these family-owned small businesses who represent the ‘best of the best’ in West Texas. They stimulate their local, state, and national economies by providing jobs and invested capital for their community” said Davis.

Maurice Torano, of The Human Bean, has won the 2023 Small Business Person of the Year for the Permian Basin Area.

Edward & Latoya Mayberry, owners of Toya’s Precious Jewels have won the 2023 Minority Small Business Champion for the Midland Area.

Events will be held throughout our district and our nation recognizing outstanding small business owners for their achievements and contributions to our nation’s economy.

Ted James, Regional Administrator of SBA stated “I am delighted to celebrate the contributions of entrepreneurs across Region VI during National Small Business Week. These winners represent the impact of small businesses across the nation who help fuel local economies through their innovation, resilience, and ingenuity.”

Tyler Patton, Director of America’s SBDC at UTPB said “the winners exemplify the entrepreneurial spirit of West Texas and have proven their effectiveness in starting and growing their businesses. Moreover, the owner’s resiliency has been critical to their success. The SBDC at UTPB is very proud of this achievement for both businesses.”

Winners will be recognized on Monday, May 1st, 2023, at the Wagner Event Center at 12:00 p.m. and all media is invited to attend.
