Sales tax up for city, hospital

The City of Odessa’s August sales tax check, which reflects sales made in June, was up 4.73% compared to June 2021.

According to a City of Odessa news release, the city received a check of $5,656,553.25. This amount includes the Economic Development sales tax of one quarter cent. The City of Odessa will receive $4,525,242.60 and the Odessa Development Corporation will receive $1,131,310.65.

The year-to-date total sales tax revenue for fiscal year 2021-22 is up 28.73%, or $9,853,878.48 as compared to budgeted amount expected at this point in the fiscal year.

In addition, the 2021-22 year-to-date amount is above the previous fiscal year-to-date amount by $6,388,316.18 or 16.92%.

The city has budgeted $37,500,000.00 in net sales tax revenues for this current fiscal year.

According to the Texas Comptroller’s Office, Midland received a check of $7,912,681.16, which was up 34.56% from last year. The city’s year-to-date amount of $50,827,548.36 is up 32.72%.

According to Medical Center Hospital, the hospital district is scheduled to receive $4,941,541 in sales tax this month. That’s an increase of nearly $1 million from the same period last year.
