Resilience program, strategic plan up for review

Two reports are set for presentation at the Ector County ISD Board of Trustees meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the board room of the administration building.

ECISD applied for a Resilience School Support Program (RSSP) grant during the summer of 2020. As a result, the Texas Education Agency provided ECISD with a technical support provider, which supported our district with the implementation of virtual learning during the 2020-2021 academic year, supplemental agenda material said.

The technical support provider is Education First, a mission-driven strategy organization with unique and deep expertise in education improvement. They focus on supporting school systems with equitable and inclusive initiatives and strategies for school improvement.

The district applied and was awarded year two support through the RSSP grant.

Lilia Náñez, associate superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction will share the new goals of the RSSP grant. The focus for year two of the RSSP grant is Recovery and Acceleration for the 2021-2022 school year.

The state is no longer funding the virtual academy, so the Texas Education Agency shifted the Resilient School Support Program (RSSP) to close the achievement gap due to COVID-19.

“We will focus on Accelerated Instruction, Foundational ELA and Math Instruction, Rigorous Expectations, and Social and Emotional Health through quality engagement in the classroom. In addition, this grant provides us with a technical support provider that will assist us in our focus areas for accelerated instruction,” Nanez said in an email.

An update on the district’s strategic plan also is on the agenda.

ECISD began work on the strategic plan, The Future is Now, in March 2019 to guide its work through 2024.

There will be quarterly strategic plan board updates. Topics to be addressed today are:

>> Redesign the Student Summer Experience.

>> Implement a Learning Management System.

>> And systematize Social and Emotional Learning.
