TRUCK DRIVER ACADEMY KICK-OFF

The Permian Strategic Partnership and Odessa College as they announce the expansion of the OC Truck Driving Academy.

An academy kick-off event will take place at 3 p.m. Jan. 18 at the OC Sewell Auto Tech, 2425 E. Eighth St. Speakers will be Tracee Bentley, PSP President and CEO, and Gregory Williams, Odessa College President.

This initiative injects more than $3.5 million into the Truck Driving Academy. These funds will support 94 additional students annually by providing scholarships and adding trucks, trailers and instructors to the OC campuses in Odessa, Pecos and Andrews.

The program includes remarks from honored guests and an equipment showcase.

The partnership between the PSP and OC provides full and part-time Commercial Driver License (CDL) training programs in the Permian Basin. There is a significant shortage of CDL-certified drivers in the Permian Basin, with the Department of Public Safety estimating 66% of commercial vehicles in the Basin are out of compliance. In 2022, 4,000 new CDL job postings were created in the Permian Basin alone.
