MLK CELEBRATION

The Black Cultural Council of Odessa will present a celebration of the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through Monday.

The theme is “A Day of Service – Unity.”

The following events are scheduled.

  • Today: 3:30 p.m., gospel celebration at First Church, 415 N. Lee St. The speaker will be the Rev. Reginald G. Reid Sr., pastor of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Shreveport, LA. Music will be provided by combined city choir.
  • Monday: 10 a.m. to noon, King brunch with speaker Mari Wills, former Odessa City Councilman, at the Woodson Community Center, 1010 E. Murphy St. Freedom March line up will follow at the Southside Senior Citizens Center, 900 S. Dixie Blvd. The march will begin at 1 p.m. Prizes will be presented. The Odessa Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., will present a candlelight vigil following the parade at Woodson Community Center. CHOCOLATE DECADENCE

The Aphasia Center of West Texas has scheduled Chocolate Decadence at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 27 at the Odessa Marriott Hotel & Conference Center, 305 E. Fifth St.

TEXAS WARRIOR MUDOUT

Be the Change Permian Basin has scheduled the Texas Warrior Mudout April 15 at Rock the Desert, 2000 FM 1788, Midland.

Packets may be picked up from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m.

Kid’s Krusade Race starts at 8 a.m., group advanced race starts at 8:45 a.m., group intermediate race starts at 9:30 a.m., and group beginner race starts at 10:15 a.m.

Teams will complete obstacles over roughly a five kilometer course that will rely on team skills and support. Teams should be a minimum of three, but there is no maximum.
