AUSTIN The Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) assessed $118,007 in administrative penalties for violations of electric rules at its open meeting Thursday. The Commission has primary oversight and economic regulatory authority over the state’s electricity, water, and telecommunications industries.
The Commission approved settlement agreements in three separate dockets:
- Docket No. 56181: A settlement agreement with a power generation company for rule violations related to weather preparedness declaration requirements in 2022 and 2023 (16 TAC § 25.55 (c)(3)(A) and (B)). The company agreed to pay an administrative penalty of $12,500.
- Docket No. 56182: A settlement agreement with a power generation company for rule violations related to weather preparedness declaration requirements in 2022 and 2023 (16 TAC § 25.55 (c)(3)(A) and (B)). The company agreed to pay an administrative penalty of $12,500.
- Docket No. 56248: A settlement agreement with a retail electric provider for rule violations related to requirements to issue contract expiration notices (16 TAC § 25.475). The provider agreed to pay an administrative penalty of $93,007.
Administrative penalty payments are made to the PUCT and are ultimately deposited into the state’s general fund. Typically, payments must be made within 30 days of the signed final order.
