Permian Strategic Partnership and the Midland Hispanic Chamber to host voter registration drive

MIDLAND The Permian Strategic Partnership, in partnership with the Midland Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (MHCC), is organizing a voter registration drive to encourage Hispanic voter participation in Midland County. The event will take place this Saturday, October 7, from 10 a.m. to noon at Martinez Bakery, 206 E. Florida Ave. Volunteers from the Midland Chamber will be on-site to assist individuals in registering to vote in the upcoming elections.

The Permian Basin has been witnessing substantial population growth, with consequential decisions looming that will significantly shape the region’s educational, healthcare, and workforce development landscape. Recognizing the significance of integrating the Hispanic community into these developments, the PSP is leading an empowerment-focused campaign. This initiative, ¡SU VOTO CUENTA!, in partnership with the MHCC, aligns with their commitment to community well-being.

Despite the critical nature of the upcoming elections and their substantial implications for the region, less than 10 percent of eligible voters in the Permian Basin exercise their voting rights. This stagnant trend over the past two years has raised concerns about the potential exclusion of residents from decisions that directly impact their daily lives, a news release said.

These organizations collectively stress the importance of participation, emphasizing that every voice holds weight. The campaign will persist in its efforts to foster voter engagement leading up to Election Day on November 7.
