A two-vehicle crash killed a 20-year-old Pecos man at 3:14 a.m. Saturday on Interstate 20 five miles west of Pyote, a Texas Department of Public Safety news release said.
Preliminary investigation indicates that a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Aron A. Lara and a 2010 Kenworth truck tractor towing a semi trailer driven by Martin Mendez, 28, of Odessa, were traveling west on Interstate 20. The Malibu was directly behind the Kenworth. According to the release, the Malibu failed to control its speed and struck the truck in the rear.
The release said Justice of the Peace Danny Bustos pronounced Lara dead at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt, the release said.
Mendez was not injured and was wearing a seatbelt, the release said.
The collision was investigated by Trooper Daniel Leyva, DPS Pecos.
