OPD seizes nearly 300 grams of meth

A drug investigation led to the seizure of more than 290 grams of methamphetamine this month and the arrest of a 26-year-old Odessa man.

According to an Odessa Police Department report, detectives received a tip a Henderson Avenue man was selling meth and they later identified him as Joshua Tavarez.

Using a variety of investigative techniques, detectives seized the meth and obtained a search warrant for the home on Henderson, the report stated.

Inside the home they found packaging, digital scales and two handguns, one of which had been reported stolen in Midland County, the report stated.

Tavarez was arrested on a parole violation charge and suspicion of manufacturing/delivery of a controlled substance, which is a first-degree felony, and theft of a firearm on Feb. 20.

He was released into the custody of another agency Feb. 22.
