OPD makes felony drug arrest

A 41-year-old Odessa man was arrested early Saturday morning on a felony drug charge after concerned citizens asked police to check on him.

According to an Odessa Police Department report, officers were asked to check on a man who was walking around Memorial Gardens Park at midnight while yelling profanities.

Officers arrested Lelan William Gilmore, 41, on an outstanding Lea County, New Mexico warrant and he asked them to give him the two cell phones that were in his bags, the report stated.

While looking for the phones, an officer found 26.7 grams of methamphetamine, according to the report.

Gilmore was arrested on suspicion of manufacturing and or delivery of a controlled substance, a first-degree felony punishable by five years to life in prison.

Gilmore remained in the Ector County jail Tuesday on a $50,000 surety bond and the New Mexico warrant.
