Oncor working to restore power in Eastridge area

Roughly 3,000 Oncor customers were briefly left without power Wednesday night due to two separate issues and crews were still working Thursday morning to restore power to approximately 190 other customers.

Ed Mendez, a customer operations executive, said a power surge interrupted a substation shortly before 10 p.m. and while they were troubleshooting that issue crews found an underground cable had failed. While working to repair it, there was some arcing and some other cables were damaged.

“We worked through the night repairing those and there was actually a second event where we had a burned switchgear that did some damage to our primary cables as well,” Mendez said. “They were all in the Glen Haven area around Eastridge.”

Ninety-four percent of the impacted customers had their power restored by 10:38 p.m., Mendez said.

It’s unknown how long the remaining customers will be without power, he said.
