Odessan killed in wreck, arrest made

A 61-year-old Odessa man was arrested Friday night on suspicion of intoxication manslaughter following a three-vehicle crash that killed an Odessa motorcyclist.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, a preliminary investigation revealed Martin Salas-Gallegos was driving across multiple westbound lanes of West 16th Street when he crossed into the eastbound lanes around 11 p.m. and hit Ismael Martinez Jr., 57 as he rode his Harley Davidson motorcycle. The 17-year-old driver of a Chrysler 300 then hit Martinez as he lay in the roadway.

Martinez, who wasn’t wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene and the teenager, also from Odessa, was unhurt.

Salas-Gallegos was treated at Medical Center Hospital and then booked into the Ector County jail on the second-degree felony. He was released Sunday after posting a $125,000 surety bond.
