Odessan dies after being thrown from vehicle

A 33-year-old Odessa man was killed in a multiple-vehicle crash at State Loop 338 and West 8th Street Wednesday night.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, a Kenworth truck was stopped at a red light on the Loop at 8th Street when a Dodge Ram rear-ended it. The Kenworth traveled across the intersection onto the northbound lanes and struck a trailer being towed by a Freightliner.

Felipe F. Oviedo-Castillo, who was in the Dodge Ram, was thrown from the vehicle and struck by a Ford Escape that was being driven by a 39-year-old Odessa resident in the outside northbound lane, a DPS news release stated.

Oviedo-Castillo was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident, which took place around 7:30 p.m. It’s unknown if he was wearing a seatbelt.

The driver of the Dodge Ram, a 39-year-old man from Odessa, was taken to Medical Center Hospital in stable condition. No one else was injured, according to DPS.
