Odessan beaten, in hospital over debt

A 34-year-old Odessa man landed in the hospital Sunday and he told police he’d been beaten and kicked repeatedly over an outstanding debt.

According to an Odessa Police Department report, dispatchers received a robbery call shortly after 9 a.m. Sunday.

When the officer arrived, a man with a black eye and several golf ball-sized knots on his face and head told him that when he was at an apartment on East 11th Street, Frank Salinas Casas, 49, came up to him and hit him, knocking him to the ground. Once on the ground, the man said Casas began kicking him with steel toe boots because he owed him money, the report stated.

The man told the officer he lost consciousness and when he woke up he was told Casas had taken his wallet and cell phone, the report stated. Once he spoke with the officer, he was transported to Medical Center Hospital.

Casas was arrested on suspicion of robbery on Wednesday. As of Friday, he remained in the Ector County jail on a $35,000 surety bond.
