Odessan arrested on family violence charge

A 27-year-old Odessa man was arrested Monday, 10 months after police said he assaulted his former girlfriend and ran her over with a car.

According to an Odessa Police Department report, the 23-year-old woman called 911 around 1 a.m. Sept. 21 to say Ruben Alfaro Jr. 27, woke her up by punching her in the face and accusing her of talking to “other people.”

She told officers an intoxicated Alfaro broke her phone, put his hand on her neck and slammed her to the floor before putting their daughter in the backseat of a car without buckling her up, the report stated.

When she tried to get the girl out of the car, the woman said Alfaro accelerated away and it ran over both of her feet when she fell, according to the report.

An officer saw a cut on the back of the woman’s head, road rash on her back and scrapes on her feet, the report stated. Her neck was also red.

A warrant was issued for Alfaro’s arrest and he was booked into the Ector County jail Monday on suspicion of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony punishable by two to 20 years in prison.

He was released Tuesday after posting a $40,000 surety bond.
