Odessan arrested following shooting

An Odessa man was arrested Sunday after witnesses told police he shot another man in the abdomen.

An Odessa Police Department report detailed that residents in the 300 block of East 43rd Street called 911 around 11 p.m. Saturday about a man who had been shot.

When officers arrived, they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper left abdomen in the backyard of a home and he was taken to Medical Center Hospital. According to the report, officers also found Marcos Anthony Dehoyos, who was identified as the gunman by witnesses, at the scene.

A witness told police Dehoyos, 25, and the shooting victim were arguing when Dehoyos went inside the residence, got a black revolver and continued arguing with the other man. According to the report, two witnesses then heard a gunshot and saw the other man fall to the ground.

Officers found a black revolver on the floor of a detached garage at the residence, the report said.

Dehoyos was booked into the Ector County jail shortly after 2 a.m. Sunday on suspicion of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He was released Monday after posting a $100,000 surety bond.

No updates on the shooting victim’s condition were immediately available Thursday.
