Odessan accused of shooting at two women

According to the Odessa Police Department, two women narrowly avoided being shot Sunday night and a 31-year-old Odessa man is now facing aggravated assault charges.

The women, ages, 20 and 21, called 911 around 8 p.m. Sunday to report they were parked at the United Supermarket on East 8th Street when a man almost hit their vehicle when he pulled into the parking spot next to them at a high rate of speed.

The women told police they argued with the man, who threatened to have his wife fight them, so they drove off, according to an OPD report. As they were driving away, they said the man chased them on foot and shot at their Nissan SUV, striking it in the rear middle portion.

Officers confirmed the women’s story by watching the store’s surveillance video and identified Zachary Linan as the suspect, the report stated.

Officers arrested Linan at a residence in the 1400 block of Woodlawn Avenue.

According to the report, officers found a THC vape pen in Linan’s pocket and the magazine to a Taurus PT22 handgun in his vehicle. The gun itself was found inside his house along with more than 3 ounces of marijuana and nearly 17 grams of cocaine.

Linan was arrested on suspicion of two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, two counts of possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of marijuana.

Linan’s wife, Isabella Cuellar, 31, was arrested on one count each of possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance. She was also arrested on the misdemeanor count of failure to report a felony because police believe she should have reported the alleged shooting.
