Odessa woman accused of attacking teen with frying pan

A 21-year-old Odessa woman was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault Monday six weeks after a 15-year-old accused her of choking her and beating her with a frying pan.

According to an Odessa Police Department report, officers were dispatched to a parking lot in the 4300 block of North Grandview Avenue on Sept. 3.

When officers arrived, they found a teenager with numerous bulbs and bruises on her face and neck, the report stated.

On Sept. 12, the teenager told a forensic interviewer she was visiting family at an apartment complex when Bronshayvia Benson falsely accused her of sleeping with her boyfriend.

During the ensuing argument, the teenager said Benson pushed her onto a bed and choked her to the point where her airway was constricted, the report said. She told the interviewer she was able to get Benson off of her and tried to leave, but Benson grabbed an iron frying pan and began to strike her in the head.

The teen said she managed to get outside, but Benson followed and tried to run her over with her car, the report stated. When she wasn’t successful, the teen said Benson began beating her with the frying pan again and ended up throwing it at her when she was done.

The teenager said none of her family members tried to help her, the report stated.

A warrant was issued for Benson’s arrest for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Benson remained in the Ector County jail Tuesday night on a $40,000 surety bond.
