Odessa man arrested on molestation charge

An Odessa man accused of molesting a 13-year-old girl was arrested at a bus stop outside the Ector County Library Friday afternoon on a warrant issued in connection with the case.

According to an Odessa Police Department report, a woman called authorities on Dec. 29 to inform them a 13-year-old girl had just told her she woke up on a couch to find Jon Brandt Moorer, 53, touching her inappropriately.

The woman said when she went to her residence to confront Moorer he jumped out a window, the report stated.

The girl also told a forensic interviewer she been molested by Moorer, the report stated. She said when Moorer realized she’d woken up he jumped, began stuttering and told her he was fixing her blanket.

A warrant was issued for indecency with a child/sexual contact, a second-degree felony.

Moorer was booked into the Ector County jail on the warrant and on suspicion of possession of marijuana after officers found less than an ounce of marijuana in his pocket, the report stated.

He remained in custody on surety bonds totaling $25,500 Monday night.
