Nearly half of MISD campuses have zero teaching vacancies

MIDLAND Midland ISD continues to hold a classroom fill rate of 96% thanks to new recruitment and retention efforts installed this year, and the work continues to fill all campus vacancies.

As of Sept. 13, there are 16 campuses with zero teaching vacancies across the 37 campuses for which MISD hires, and eight only have one vacancy. Teacher positions include core content, special topic, electives, special education and bilingual/ESL.

Six campuses don’t have any academic vacancies, which includes positions such as campus administrators, campus professionals and instructional support. Eight campuses have only one vacancy.

Across the district, support staff has the fewest vacancies with 18 campuses having none and 11 having one. Positions in this category include nurses, clerical and child nutrition staff.

In total, MISD has 216 openings: 56 teachers, 131 academic and 29 support.

“We’re very pleased with the way our recruitment and retention strategies have helped us keep staffing levels high at campuses, but we’re continuing to work hard to fill vacancies and keep the employees we do have in place for a long time,” Brandon Reyes, Chief of Human Capital Management,, said in a news release.

Midland ISD is comprised of 39 campuses; however, IDEA Travis Academy and Pre-Kindergarten Academy at Midland College handle hiring at their respective campuses and weren’t included in the data.
