Mural Painting Day

>> UPDATE: The Odessa Arts and Black Tulip event has been cancelled due to inclement weather expected this weekend, a press release on Friday morning detailed.

Odessa Arts & Black Tulip Floral Design will be hosting a Community Mural Painting Day from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Black Tulip Floral Design, 4651 N. Grandview Ave.

“Black Tulip is the first recipient of a mural assistance grant,” Odessa Arts Executive Director Randy Ham said in a news release. “This program helps local businesses select and hire artists to create unique pieces for their buildings, making our community brighter.”

Cuban born artist Jhonattan Arango was selected out of 81 applicants to create the design for Black Tulip, and has been working on the piece for over a week. Arango will assist community members in making their own mark on the piece. “I think it’s important to have the people of Odessa feel like they are a part of the process,” Arango said in the release. “It establishes a feeling of ownership and community pride.”

The event will also feature food trucks.
